XBox 360...

See the Xbox 360 specs have begun to surface. Feasible ones that is!

Nice looking specs. Basically will be about equivalent to the top end PC available when released - the GDDR3 should give it quite a leg up in the performance stakes.

The multicores whilst maybe not so good for AI will be superb at physics - probably the most important thing for next gen stuff. The Altivec design is basically a big matrix calcutor, requiring huge memory bandwidth - ideally about 256 bits at clock frequency on huge datasets, so DDR3 at 700MHz is a start. Glad to see its got 512Meg, Hires textures *need* this much.

The on board framebuffer on the GPU should give quite a boost to matching the performance claims, as the next gen GPUs may be less memory constrained due to all the extra proccessing done by pixel shaders etc, and I am guessing the chip will be quite a bit quicker than previous efforts at shaders, as most of the data will be cached.

Top PCs at the point of release should be 2 core A64s @ 2.6GHz with probably a similar GFX card with 666/533MHz DDR2. Harddrive and memory should be irrelevant to gaming. Nice to see the HD is detachable. Wonder if it'll play MP3's? Expect Bill would like that to be the case...

Only sad thing is the huge amount of hidden cost. No borrowing games, and a required subscription to Xbox Live. Console piracy may well be finished too. Probably will secure the title of 'killer-app' for broadband, though.

So how long before someone gets it to boot Linux?
