America, Sex and Violence

America seems to be going mad over Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas at the moment. To me the whole argument beggars belief. This is a game where you can walk down the street, shoot a prositude in the head, and then repeatedly stamp/kick her till she dies. After than you can steal all her money, oh and rob her car for good measure.

Does this cause outcry from the US? No. In fact, we'll give it an Advisory rating. After all, its good clean fun. Pixellated people screwing each other, however, and that has gone too far.

Considering America's high birth rate it looks like this puritan part of society is not well represented. But they seem to have a loud voice at the moment. Now they are starting to whinge about uncensored pod casts and the like.

What amuses me most is Hillary Clinton - you know, the one whose family put cigars, blowjobs and stains into primetime news - is a flag carrier for this fight.

Seems to me these people have forgotten what being a kid is all about. Protecting them from graphic sexual images is a lost cause. Its also a hell of a lot healthier than letting them channel their aggressions into violence (which they will also do, in case there was any question). Its a wonder the human race survives at all.

Of course Rockstar must be privately laughing their heads off in Edinburgh. They set out to make an adult game, and were probably somewhat bemused that the Americans would give it anything other than mature.

I always thought the UK was the place for this, but since Mary Whitehouse quit the scene a few years ago, the UK has not collapsed into depravity. Quite the opposite. Recent add campains for Easy Jet featuring a well endowed woman wearing a t-shirt saying "Weapons of Mass Distraction" got poor responses as being dull. PR has always relied on the Taboo for popularity, and Rockstar's headline grabbing "gaffe" may well turn out to be a big sales booster for them.

Good luck to them! Now go on Rockstar, get than MMPORG version out. Then Americans can get back to screwing each other and shooting real people in the head, instead of just regenerating computer generated polygons...

As a freind that recently discovered this hidden content said to me - "They hid it because it's shit. Repeatedly pressing the up and down buttons is hilarious for all of 2 seconds."

It seems to be another case of extremist loonies doing their best to promote whatever it is they hate.
